Carbon Credit Buyers
CMC’s carbon sequestration program delivers a range of significant benefits. It enhances corporate sustainability efforts through the sale of high-integrity carbon credits, supports emissions reductions across the beef industry’s supply chain, and directs much-needed finance to farmers, helping to build resilient businesses across Uruguay.
Over two-thirds of Uruguay’s land is natural grassland, offering year-round grazing on perennial grasses — ideal for long-term soil carbon sequestration.
With up to 75% of national emissions coming from agriculture, and a temperate climate with low deforestation risk, nature-based carbon projects are more reliable and resilient in Uruguay.
100% of cattle are electronically tracked from birth to market, ensuring transparency, accountability, and supply chain traceability.
Uruguay is known for its transparent governance and stable institutions — essential for lasting, large-scale climate impact.
The sale of these credits or investment in emissions reductions in the direct supply chain both support corporate sustainability efforts and help finance the transition towards more sustainable cattle farming.
Ranchers sign on with CMC and receive support on how to adopt rotational grazing which is proven to increase soil carbon sequestration.
Our partner EarthOptics, collect and analyze soil samples to establish a baseline of existing carbon stocks in the rancher’s land.
Baseline data is submitted to BCarbon, an independent registry, which certifies the land’s carbon storage potential. This step ensures scientific rigor and third-party validation from the start.
Each year, additional soil samples are collected and analysed. Based on these results and modelled carbon capture potential, BCarbon issues provisional carbon credits.
CMC sells these credits on behalf of ranchers, with 20% held in reserve to account for future variability. The remaining credits are available for purchase and monetization, offering early access to performance-based removals.
Every five years, a comprehensive soil reassessment is conducted to measure the actual carbon sequestered. Independent third-party auditors verify the outcomes to ensure complete transparency and scientific accuracy.
Following this review, BCarbon performs a final reconciliation to confirm whether previously issued credits align with verified results. If any adjustments are needed, they are made using the reserve credits — ensuring integrity without buyer exposure.
CMC manages the sale of credits and distributes 75% of net revenue back to the rancher, reinvesting in the resilience of rural communities.

Carbon Insetting
It means investing in projects that directly improve sustainability in your sourcing network — and that’s exactly what CMC’s program offers. If your company sources from a ranch on our program, you can claim the emissions reductions based on the carbon sequestered through improved grazing practices.
Uruguay sets the global standard for beef traceability:
With Uruguay’s SNIG system, our program combines ranch-level data with head-level traceability to the first point of aggregation in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) Land Sector and Removals Guidance (LSRG), providing you with confidence in the accuracy, accountability, and impact of your insetting claims.
Soil Data Analytics
Soil Data Analytics
US based agricultural technology company specializing in advanced soil measurement and mapping solutions. EarthOptics will deliver third-party soil carbon analytics for enrolled ranches and submit the results to BCarbon, ensuring transparency and credibility in emissions reporting.
Carbon Registry
Carbon Registry
Nonprofit carbon registry and climate research centre that emerged out of Rice University, Texas. BCarbon offers scientifically rigorous and practical protocols for measuring and certifying nature-based carbon credits, making them accessible and credible for farmers and buyers alike.
Regenerative Farming Consultants
Regenerative Farming Consultants
US based, internationally recognized leader on rotational grazing practices. Understanding Ag will review rotational grazing practices in Uruguay, maximizing carbon sequestration for ranches enrolled in the program.
We have the expertise to determine which ranches will qualify for a minimum amount of carbon sequestration, working alongside world-leading partners such as BCarbon and Understanding Ag to ensure quality and scientific reliability.
We will provide hands-on training and technical support to farmers to ensure consistent adoption of best practices across all participating ranches.
We provide buyers with consistent, systemized, due diligence material and contracts to make the addition of new cohorts’ credits efficient and streamlined.
We offer a large pool of ranchers per cohort for risk diversification.
We provide consistent systematic updates of the cohorts from on-the-ground inspections and physical soil samples to geospatial monitoring.
The result of our work is a high-integrity carbon sequestration offering with excellent long-term potential, and an ambition to expand our program across the country and the wider region.
